What is Vello?
Vello is a United Way program that provides one-on-one online tutoring to help ensure kids are reading by 4th grade, which sets them up in school and beyond. Vello serves students in 1st - 3rd grade at Title 1 districts which face the challenges of poverty.
How does Vello work?
Vello is a sponsorship opportunity that pairs a sponsor and their volunteer team with a classroom. Vello provides a computer, e-library access for all students and tutoring partnerships for strategic readers that need extra 1:1 support.
Teachers are supported with online resources, and a team of volunteers invested in student success!
Virtual tutoring sessions create meaningful outcomes, including increased reading levels and academic engagement.
Vello in Spokane County
This past year, Spokane County United Way & Guardian Life Insurance partnered with Riverside School District to bring Vello into the 2nd grade at Chattaroy Elementary. Guardian employees read virtually to students from their work place and provided mentorship in the process. Since last August, students participating in Vello have improved an average of two reading levers and read or listened to over 10,000 books! Congratulations to these students and Guardian Life Insurance for a great year of outcomes and volunteerism.
We are excited to announce a new Vello partnership will be starting this fall with Pitney Bowes.
