United for U.S. is a joint effort between United Way, our corporate partners, organized labor, and nonprofits to assist furloughed federal workers and others impacted by the ongoing government shutdown.

Furloughed employees are encouraged to call 2-1-1 a nonemergency, three-digit service that provides information about local social services, including the availability of public benefits and corporate assistance programs. 2-1-1 connects callers to resources and aid for monthly living expenses. This is a free, confidential service. United Way supports and provides 2-1-1 services in most communities across the U.S.
American Indian Community Center
Will temporarily change their Foodbank service area. In addition to all American Indian individuals and families and those living in the 99202 Zip Code, assistance will gladly be extended to serve anyone needing food that id a furloughed federal employee or contractor. Green's Fresh Market
Located at 4915 North Market, is offering a $30 in-store credit to help people who aren't getting a paycheck. Please bring a valid ID and proof of employment.
If you or someone you know needs extra support, please visit Second Harvest's website to locate a pantry or Mobile Market near you. Second Harvest partners with over 250 food pantries, meal sites and other programs throughout a 26-county service area in Eastern Washington and North Idaho.

Offering 0% APR Lifeline Loan to assist Federal employees. Website Link
Offering a new low-rate quick loan designed to help customers' families impacted by the shutdown. Qualified federal government employees can apply for a $100-$6,000 low-rate, quick loan, or find out about mortgage relief options. Customers should call U.S. Bank's designated federal government shutdown line at 877-760-6046. Website Link
Wells Fargo will waive fees for customers who have direct deposits from the federal government, or at the customer's request, and will offer short and long-term assistance for those who need extra time to make payments. Website Link

Will institute a grace period and delayed payments for standard personal lines; expedite requests for withdrawals and loans to disburse money quickly; waive certain fees; and extend due dates for insurance premium and loan payments. Is encouraging customers struggling to pay bills because of the shutdown to call 888-211-4727 or go online at Sprint.com to talk with a customer care representative about short-term payment solutions to keep service uninterrupted.

Transportation and Travel
Will pay hosts who are furloughed employees for an extra night (up to $110) for every three nights they rent out their house, apartment or room to travelers.
Is working in the Washington, D.C. area - home to 300,000 federal workers - to provide financial support, including donating food to local food banks.
Other / Community Support
Will provide up to four free tickets for one event to each furloughed employee affected by the government shutdown. Website Link

As part of its long partnership with the labor movement, United Way is also working with a number of labor organizations, including the AFL-CIO, the American Federation of Government Employees and the National Treasury Employees Union, to distribute information on resources available to assist with needs and living expenses.
