Thank you to our 600 volunteers and community members that joined us for our Day of Action. Together we packaged fresh onions, potatoes and 10 bean mix into family sized portions for 140,000 meals of veggie chili.
Spokane County United Way's goal is to improve the financial stability of families in our community, support healthy family relationships and increase high school graduation rates. Through providing nutritious meals we know families are able to make their income stretch further. We know children showing up to school with full stomachs and knowing a healthy meal will be at home for dinner do better in school.
Make a Meal for Many is our signature volunteer event. This year 600 volunteers gathered together at the Spokane Convention Center. These volunteers sorted pallets of ten bean mix, fresh potatoes and onions into family sized portions of ten bean veggie chili.
At the end of the day the volunteers packaged enough food for 140,000 meals of veggie chili.
We partner year round with Second Harvest Inland Northwest to increase the financial stability of families. For our Day of Action we worked together and secured the fresh products for the Ten Bean Veggie Chili from local vendors as well as for the distribution of these meals into the community. Through this local partnership we are providing high quality fresh produce, promoting sustainable local food access, and ensuring families in our community have access to healthy, nutritious food.
