Needs

Spokane County United Way is focused on one thing - having the greatest impact on the most pressing social needs throughout Spokane County.

In order to successfully achieve impact, a strategic approach needs to be taken in the implementation and execution of community building. To assure we achieve our desired results our efforts are focused in four areas:

Community Initiatives

Spokane County United Way strives to build and strengthen our community through two primary initiatives, Success By 6 and our Volunteer Center. We are also committed to working with community partners throughout Spokane County in addressing social needs as they arise.

Assessing Social Need

Every two years Spokane County United Way provides a report on human care issues in our region. The report is used to guide fund allocation panel volunteers in making funding recommendations.

Allocating Funds and Resources

Once the social need throughout Spokane County has been assessed and reported, community volunteers allocate funds to the services that will have the greatest impact Spokane County.

Tracking Community Indicators

Review and update community indicators to support the community assessment. This includes Spokane County United Way planning indicators and the United Way of America State of Caring Index. When will 2-1-1 get off the ground here?

The State WIN 211 Board approved SMH’s application to run Spokane County’s Call Center in May 2005. The next step toward implementation requires completion of a comprehensive local business plan. Led by SCUW staff, this process involves a series of meetings and discussions with the numerous health and human serivce agencies, existing I&R providers as well as federal, state and local government officials. These meetings are intended to educate these stakeholders about the 2-1-1 program and, more importantly, gather expertise and input on program operations. This community meeting process and business plan must be completed before 2-1-1 launches in Spokane.
